It was an auspicious start. Communications Group Red Deer Ltd. launched April 1, 1992 and it was no joke. The company specializes in the sales, service, and rentals of two-way radio systems, GPS products, GPS tracking devices, satellite phones and cellular equipment, while providing 24-hour, 365-day back-up to many central Alberta emergency services, petrochemical and processing facilities, drilling rigs, seismic crews, large-load truckers, and even utility companies. Communications Group Red Deer Ltd. keeps everyone connected, whether in the field or in the office.
Bruce Heroux, president, and Eugene Andres, general manager, have been business partners for 35 years. Their partnership originally began with their first communications business in Lethbridge and, after selling that business in 1984, they moved to Red Deer. Upon selling their second communications business in Red Deer, Communications Group Red Deer Ltd. was started in 1992. As a testament to their management capabilities and commitment to employee engagement, several employees have stayed with them throughout their various business ventures.
“We have a good group of long-term employees,” Heroux says. “Communications Group also has a very good reputation for excellent customer service. Everyone takes pride in how we deliver our products to precisely meet the needs of each client.” The partners have hired a core group of executives to assume more control of the business and thus allow the pair more free time.
Today, the company employs 60 full-time staff, ranging from sales and service to technicians, project management and engineering. They work hard to keep abreast with technology development, manufacturing changes, and know how to change out old equipment and install new, with the minimum fuss and bother to the client.
Andres reports they send employees to training sessions, trade shows, and expositions to ensure they can provide the latest technology. “It’s very critical to be able to service what you sell. We have all the licences and permits that Industry Canada and each manufacturer requires, so our people are confident we are providing the right solutions for the right challenges.”
Heroux believes the future of communications lies in internet technology. “Likely, in the future everything that can be outfitted with a wireless electronic device will be connected to the internet. These wifi devices will possibly monitor your health, send alerts to drivers about traffic accidents up ahead, record environmental data around your operating facilities, track the movements of employees, and provide a safer work environment.”
Communications Group Red Deer Ltd. is committed to long-term relationships with its customer base, ensuring that they are aware of the latest technology developments. Along with this is their commitment to have personel adequetly trained to support this ever-changing field.
