Global Petroleum Show to celebrate 50 years as North America’s premier energy event

More than a tradeshow: inaugural conference to provide forum for industry’s most critical conversations

CALGARY, May 23, 2018 /CNW/ – Global Petroleum Show (GPS), North American’s leading energy event, will kick-off its 50th year next month in Calgary. From June 12-14, over 50,000 industry professionals, government officials, national and international energy companies, thought leaders and influencers from around the globe will gather at Stampede Park to share innovative technologies and engage in complex and controversial discussions with the potential to shape the future of the energy industry.

“For the last 50 years, Global Petroleum Show has experienced significant transformation alongside the evolving industry,” says Nick Samain, Vice President of dmg::events, organizers of Global Petroleum Show. “In the face of adversity, the event has adapted to provide a bigger and better platform for key industry players to gather and engage in dialogue reflecting the state of energy – from pipeline disputes and rising oil prices, to environmental trends and geopolitical issues around the world.”

The conversations around critical issues, including the important role of Indigenous groups, responsible hydrocarbon production and disruptive technologies, will be at the forefront of Global Petroleum Show’s program, with the launch of an annual comprehensive, three-day business and technical conference in 2018.

The inaugural conference includes 64 technical sessions, three keynote presentations, three C-Suite Dialogues and seven business sessions.

Conference delegates will engage in dynamic discussions regarding peak oil prices, oil shortage uncertainty and surging shale oil production during the panel North American Outlook: Identifying Opportunities for Growth. Not shying away from controversial subjects, top-tier energy leaders will address industry disputes surrounding pipeline expansion and the need for greater market access during the panel Energy, Security, and Safety: Addressing the Need for Infrastructure.

The conference will also address the demand for transformative business models and technologies. Panels including Blockchain: Digital Disruption of the Oil & Gas Industry and The Digital Revolution: Machine Learning will bring together some of the industry’s most accomplished thinkers and innovators for discussions on blockchain, artificial intelligence, deep machine learning and more, with the potential alter the way that energy leaders conduct business.

“Together with our technology partner, R3, this event provides the ideal platform to announce new projects and product offerings we’ve been developing that will significantly move the needle for our clients, providing them with increased levels of automation, as well as new levels of trust and consensus,” says James Graham, President & CEO of GuildOne, the major conference sponsor. “I look forward to discussing how companies like GuildOne, the pioneering technology company who built the first PNG smart contract settlement using Corda blockchain, will impact the future of oil and gas as well as many other industries.”

In addition to the inaugural conference, Global Petroleum Show will host over 460,000 square feet of exhibition space, providing a marketplace for visitors to make connections and conduct business. The show continues to attract the latest technologies and innovations; this year, more than 1,000 companies, equipment and displays will be on-site, making it the largest energy showcase in Canada.

“Global Petroleum Show is North American’s largest exhibition and conference covering the entire oil and gas supply chain,” says Samain. “Companies want to know how to be more profitable, efficient and sustainable, and Global Petroleum Show has the industry-led conference program and top-tier exhibitors to give them that competitive edge.”

In addition to the conference and exhibition, the GPS Awards Gala will take place on June 12. Through one of the most impactful oil downturns in history, the awards program has continued to celebrate the successes of companies creating positive change. Having received over 100 award submissions for 2018, Global Petroleum Show looks forward to celebrating the top companies and individuals in eight categories. It is with great honour that this year’s awards gala will also be recognizing the accomplishments of the late Suzanne West, a fearless pioneer in clean hydrocarbon production.

Global Petroleum Show is also excited to present the GPS Celebrates Concert in celebration of the show’s 50th Anniversary. The concert will take place on June 13 at the Big Four Roadhouse, providing visitors and delegates with an opportunity to network in an exciting concert setting. Tickets for the concert are $50 and can be purchased on the Global Petroleum Show website.
